I co-own Lake Street Market, a specialty market and deli in the resort town of Boyne City, Michigan.  That’s sixty or eighty or a hundred hours a week depending on the time of year.  But I have always loved art and craft, and have focused on a few different forms over the years.  Photography is sharpening my ability to see and share the art that already exists in the world, often in the “nothing” that we walk past–or on–every day.  A photograph is also a piece of art that I have some hope of completing given my current schedule.

I struggle constantly with whether to use my few spare hours to get out there and click away, or to spend time studying the fundamentals of photography.  I have much to learn.

First day with new waders, March 2010. Had to get closer to that ice.
